Made me a much better leader than I was when I took on the role. The growth being president of such a massive organization has given me is spectacular(It also helped me get into Harvard!)

What has UMSU International done for you personally/professionally?
I’ve made a few very good friends who may become lifelong friends after graduating from uni. The committee works closely with each other which allows you to make meaningful connections.
If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?
I would like to have the power of Scribblenauts, the power to write/draw anything and have it come to life but also to just delete that thing at will (I wake up and choose to cause chaos everyday).

What has UMSU International done for you personally/professionally?
UMSUi made me go outside of my comfort zone and allowed me to grow personally. I also didn’t expect to learn about how much work goes into promoting events, so being able to acquire all these skills and knowledge during my time at UMSUi means a lot to me :)

Through my time in UMSUi, I’ve learnt a lot about working together with people from different backgrounds and how to effectively communicate with other people when there is a disagreement. Alongside this, I’ve gotten over my fear of socializing with new people and public speaking. So slay!! :DDD
What is one of your guilty pleasures?
You know those tubs of hummus that they sell at Woolies? Sometimes I like to buy a tub of hummus and eat the entire thing with just a spoon. No bread or crackers or anything, just pure hummus mmmmmm. :))))

I joined UMSUi because I wanted to make new friends hahaha🤣, I was an ISA before I joined and I loved helping out with all the events and the OBs seemed really cool so I also wanted to be an OB XD
If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?
I would be very sad since I love food :(. If it's like one "dish" I would choose pizza since you can have any toppings on a pizza and you can even have dessert pizza and you don't have to eat pizza base hehe.

What has UMSU International done for you personally/professionally?
I have made lifelong friendships through UMSU intl. This has become a group of people I can lean on at any time! Also balancing my studies, extracurriculars, and UMSU Intl whilst studying abroad (17 hours time difference OMGGG ew) has helped me further improve my time management skills. This role has also given me the opportunity to meet many other professionals and has honed my decision making skills (me being the most indecisive person on earth).

You get to learn about the behind the scenes of running an event (e.g. proposal writing, procurement/logistics, marketing, etc.) among other things, so it gave me a sense of what it’ll be like in my future career. I was also able to make a few really good friends along the way, which is also a wonderful bonus of course :)
Name one thing you're persisted for over 12 months.
I’ve consistently (-ish) been taking pilates classes a few times a week! It’s a very big accomplishment for someone who hates any form of physical exertion as much as I do lol.

Don't hold back🙌! If you love to make people smile it’s the perfect role for you. However, its not an easy job so be prepared for the challenges and the work. Seeing people at events we are responsible for, enjoying or getting benefit from them, makes me pretty happy as uni life especially as an international student can get rough. So I’m just glad we’re able to alleviate some of that immense dread through our initiatives.

On a personal level, this journey definitely spiced up my university life and allow me to connect with people all around the world. Why did you join UMSU International?
Initially, I joined UMSUi as an ISA, with goals to expand my social network and be more involved in university life. As I joined more events, I felt more welcomed and appreciated by the UMSUi family. Thus, I applied to be an HR co-opted officer in hopes that future ISAs would be able to feel the same warm feeling that I felt (still do) as a part of the UMSUi family.
