About Jannette Hoe
Janette Hoe is a Melbourne-based dance artist with over three decades of experience in site-specific performance. Grounded in Butoh and a fusion of Eastern and Western somatic improvisation, her practice draws from her Malaysian-Chinese-Indonesian heritage to explore the body as a living archive of memory, identity, and transformation.
Her work spans movement, materiality, gesture, and image, investigating how identity shifts through place, age, and memory, and examining the role of ritual in enabling transformation.
She collaborates across disciplines and presents performances in public spaces, galleries, and natural environments — expanding where and how dance can be experienced.
